Today's Passage: Lamentations 3
In Lamentations 3 we find Jeremiah continuing on his sad lament about God's punishment on Jerusalem. In the first 20 verses of this chapter Jeremiah focuses on the suffering that he is going through because he has come under God's wrath. In verse 21 however, we see Jeremiah's attitude change. He says:
Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s
great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
As Jeremiah proceeds through the remainder of chapter 3 a new viewpoint is revealed. One that captures the perfect balance between God's loving kindness and judgment. This is such a a beautiful picture for believers because it means that even when we are facing the worldly consequences of our sin God is there and wants us to be restored. We are never on our own in the dark times in life. God is there, waiting with love and open arms. All we have to do is remember and turn to Him.
