Today's Passage:  2 Chronicles 3-4

Wow!  The temple was magnificent.  Solomon enlisted talented craftsmen and used the finest materials.  The attention to detail is incredible and the beauty must have been breathtaking.  While the temple was designed for God's glory, reading its description reminds me of one of God's attributes:  his everlastingness.

This spectacular temple that we read of in this passage was eventually destroyed.  Although it was made of the finest materials, it no longer stands.  God stands forever.  While we have a difficult time wrapping our human minds around this concept, it doesn't change its truth.  There has never been a time that God didn't exist and there never will be.  We all know that material possessions don't last forever.  We all know that in the grand scheme of things it won't matter what kind of car we drove, or what our house looked like, or what clothes we wore...or even what our church building looked like.  Of course, God wants us to be good stewards of these things, but this should come with following after Him with everything we've got.  What a great reminder that we can trust everything we have and everything we are to Him completely...it's all his anyway.  This is a challenge to turn our thoughts toward eternity...is everything I am doing focused on the present, or even this life?  Or, am I intentionally trying to impact his eternal kingdom?
