Today's Passage: 1 Corinthians 1:1-31

Here, Paul writes to the church in Corinth. We see in verses 4-9 the gratefulness he harbors for them. They lived under the grace of God which enriched them in speech and knowledge. The key here is that it was by grace that they excelled in the knowledge of the Lord, not lacking in any spiritual gift. God provided in His marvelous love all that they needed to testify to the work of Christ. He greatly desired that they know Him and spread the good news of the gospel. So, He gave them everything they needed.

In verse 26 Paul recognizes that the Corinthians were not wise according to worldly standards. The majority were not well educated, nor powerful, nor of any noble descent. However, God used them to make those qualities insignificant in comparison with the brilliantly simple gospel of Jesus Christ.

We are God's tools in this world to make His name known. Therefore, He equips us with the spiritual gifts we need to do so but we must remember that everything and anything good we have is from Him. So, "let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."

Oh I how love this! Not wise in worldly knowledge, but wise in the Truth! This is exactly what I yearn for and pray for my daughters. I jokingly say I want to move to a farm and go pioneer and get away from all this "stuff" because I think it is so distracting.
