Today's Passage: 1 Corinthians 8
What is knowledge, without love? Knowledge is great but it's how you handle that knowledge that matters. We may know for example, that by eating food offered to idols, that idols do not exist and it's no consequence if we eat this food because our hearts and minds are not acting in association with these idols. A more relatable reference would be, we know that dancing is not a sin so we are able to dance without injuring our conscience. Just as verse 8 says, "Food will not commend us to God," so, dancing or not dancing will not commend us to God. However, just because we have freedom in this, doesn't mean that we act irresponsibly with this freedom.
There were some in biblical times who were previously shackled in service to their idols and later found freedom in Christ but who were weak in there walk and easily defiled by this because of there old habits. This remains true with many christians today. So, we who are strong in our knowledge should not stumble those who are weaker but instead, walk in love towards them. If I knowingly act in a way which harms the weaker christian and consequently discourages them, then I am in sin (refer to verse 12).
"Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat lest I make my brother stumble." 1 Corinthians 8:13
