Today's Passage: Psalm 63-65
There are times, as christians, when you feel very near to God and times when you feel very far from God. There are times when it's as though you could hear His very voice speaking clearly through His word and through His Spirit and times when it feels like He's not even there. Throughout Psalms we read of David's ongoing Spiritual battle. This just shows us that we will never be steady or consistent but remember, God is.
We must understand that it is us who waver within ourselves not God. See how david sings, "Your steadfast love is better than life." (Psalm 63:3) Even as David's spirit is desperately dry and thirsty for the presence of God, he still recognizes that God is steadfast. His love is always the same and always persistent. Until the day we reach heaven, we will always battle for that closeness with God. This is the war that goes on between our spirit and our flesh, between what what is good for us and what is bad for us. Galatians 5:17 says, "For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do."
We know that we are constantly battling for what is good and beneficial for us and we know that righteousness and holiness is what we should be seeking. Now, let's look at some ways to win that battle. Reread Psalms 63:3-8 and take note of all that david does.
Before I end, let me encourage you. If you know this feeling, described in Psalm 63:1, of being thirsty and faint for the Lord, you are in the right place! This is a sure sign that God is drawing you near. Your heart is longing for the things of the Lord. PRAISE HIM for He is good!!! Keep pushing forward, keep looking toward the goal, keep anticipating His coming. Heaven is on the horizon and there we will rest in His eternal presence.
