Today's Passage: Proverbs 24
"If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter." (Proverbs 24:10-11)
This hit me pretty hard. First, because I know that I am weak and when faced with the adversity of life and sin, I cannot stand strong in righteousness without Christ. Second, because God has called us out as his workmen to "rescue" those who are headed for destruction.
My first thought is, how in the world could I do this? How could the saved become the saver? Now we know that it is God who does the work and it is He who calls the unrighteous into righteousness. However, we are his workman and as such He has given us the tools and the power to conquer through the Holy Spirit. Let's take it one step further. Consider this: if we claim to be saved by Christ, shouldn't we draw from and display the power of the Holy Spirit as a testimony of His grace?
We have witnessed the power of Christ in our lives. Now we must live dependently on that power (that of the Holy Spirit). Our salvation is based on our desperate need for Christ, but it's not a one time deal. We must walk strong in Jesus Christ knowing that our flesh is weak and that His power is more than sufficient to carry us. Know that we can't but He can. His power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
