Today's Passage: Isaiah 17-18
Chapter seventeen foretells the ruin of Damascus. Their glory would be brought low and their enemy's glory would resemble Israel's former glory. The land would be deserted and kingdoms brought down. However, in all of this we see God's plan.
"In that day man will look to his Maker, and his eyes will look on the Holy One of Israel" (17:7)
The nation had grown proud and forgotten the God of their salvation. So, in order to bring them back God was humbling them. This is the big picture: that glory and honor be turned towards the Lord and the Lord alone.
