Today's Passage:  Job 5-6

Job is widely known as a man who suffered great trials and loss.  Through reading this book one may learn of perseverance, adversity, patience, faith, and hope when all seems lost.  There is also another important theme woven throughout the book:  God, and God alone, is constant.

Job's friends, and even his wife, give him poor insight and fail to offer Job what only God can...somebody in whom he can place faith.  On a daily basis we place faith in our families, friends, co-workers, even complete strangers to some degree.  We have those select few people in our lives that we trust with everything.  And while we know that they would most likely never intentionally let us down, we also know that they are human and will never be perfect.  God is.  When friends fail, God does not.  When family hurts us, God offers comfort.  When co-workers behave selfishly, God reminds us that He always wants the best for us...even if it is difficult.  Life with God is not guaranteed easy...I like to think of it as pretty adventurous, really...but his faithfulness is guaranteed.  We can learn ways to praise God by not only reading accounts of his providence in Scripture, but also by considering what He has done for you personally in your lifetime.  Think over the years since you gave your life to Christ and relish his constancy.  Take heart in the fact that He will never change and his love and provision is enduring.
