Today's Passage: Job 28-29

Job 28 describes how skillfully and desperately man searches out the treasures hidden within the earth. "He cuts out channels in the rocks and his eye sees every precious thing." (Job 3:10) And yet man in his search for riches, cannot dig deep enough within the bowels of the earth to find the most precious and overlooked treasure there is: the wisdom of God. So it is true, "man does not know its worth." (Job 28:13)

If we understand that the worth of wisdom is more than we can know, why do we not seek it more desperately? So often we walk in the wisdom of man in what feels good, looks good, and tastes good. For instance, sometimes we justify our behavior towards one another because of the harm inflicted upon ourselves. But how much more precious is it to walk in the wisdom of God? To "love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you," and, "pray for those who abuse you." (Luke 6:27) To the world this is shear foolishness but "the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight." (1 Corinthians 3:19) Remember, we are not of this world. Our home and our rest is in Jesus Christ and not in the ways and habits of this world though they look good, feel good, and even taste good. Remember that even the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was "good for food and was a delight to the eyes." Seek God's wisdom before even tasting the wisdom of this world.

Let's look at Job 29. Here we see man who though walking in all righteousness, was wounded in almost every way. Without fully seeing the wisdom and workings of God, Job attempts to justify himself before the Lord by listing all of his good deeds. But does not God know every good and evil deed in the heart of a man? God was using his suffering to shape further still the character of a righteous man. God never neglects the task of readying us for the kingdom of heaven. It may sometimes hurt but don't dread it. Those who are willing to be molded, take joy in knowing that God will never give up on you and in His divine wisdom, he is sculpting you into a breathtaking masterpiece. Be ready when the chisel meets the stone. His work is at hand.
