Today's Passage: Psalms 13-15

"... Light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death," (Psalm 13:3). Just as light is assuredness to us, so is the presence of God. We are truly blessed. For we, the righteous children of God, walk in that light and must continue to walk in that light for it leads us to the very throne of God. He is like a beaming tower of light waiting by the restless sea, waiting for His beloved to reach the safety of His shore.

And yet, we all know the feeling of being far from God, it is as though we are walking in darkness, as though our earnest prayers never reach His lofty ear. So, how do we return to the presence of God? How do we return to the light? The answer is to seek the Lord. "For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened" (Matthew 7:8). But remember, that in seeking the Lord we must trust in His steadfast love just as David did (Psalm 13:5). Though you may feel far from Him, know that HE HAS NEVER ABANDONED YOU! He may allow you to struggle on those raging seas but every tossing wave is in His divine control. Notice how forsaken David feels. Yet even so, he never forgets God's salvation and continues laying down before the Lord his burdens, asking for guidance, and rejoicing! We must do these things. God's love is steadfast in the calm, in the struggle, and in the storm.

But be cautious and fear the Lord. Take note of the corrupt ways of the wicked that David speaks of in chapter 14. For "they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous" (Psalm 14:5).  Check your heart because maybe what's preventing you from seeing God, is your sin. Our sin is what separates us from God (Isaiah 59:1-2). "Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!" (Psalm 139:23-24) This should be our prayer.

Laura, all I can say is WOW!
Wow! I loved it. "He is like a beaming tower of light waiting by the restless sea, waiting for His beloved to reach the safety of His shore." That is a very good analogy or metaphor whatever it is called, but I liked it a lot.

It is true we all have or will experience that feeling, the feeling of distance from God; although there are many reasons why. However, you posed a very good questions that I and I am sure many people asked, "So, how do we return to the presence of God? How do we return to the light?" Your answer is true, we are to seek the Lord. We are to fall at the feet of the Cross, where His love is poured out. One of my favorite verses in all of Holy Scripture is Hebrews 13:5-6 "...I will never leave you, nor will I forsake you..." To know the comfort of Almighty God brings joy to the heart.

And you are right again, we ought to check our hearts because maybe it is our sin. We as believers should keep Psalm 139:23-24 as our prayer and humble ourselves before the Awsome, Holy King whose throne is heaven and foot-stool is the earth. Oh, may His glorious name be praised and lifted up high.

I enjoyed your post very much and I look foward to reading others in the near future.
Laura I hope you have a blessed day. :)

thanks for the comment angelo!

yes! you're right! there are a lot of reasons why we experience this distance. the most damaging can be our sin. however, some also feel it when they're going through trails. they feel like God has abandoned them when He is sometimes just growing, strengthening, and (ironically) drawing them nearer to Him. another reason may be that as humans we just feel too insignificant and sinful in the face of an almighty and righteous God. so we, in our shame, distance ourselves. thank you so much for pointing that out :) if you have any other reasons that someone might feel this way please let me know! God Bless!

Laura, whatever may be the reason as to why someone may feel distant from God, you are right we ought to come to Him who allows us to breath. Just as
James 4:8 says "Draw close to God and He will draw close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded." And also as it says in 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Once again Laura it is a good post and I enjoyed reading it, I am looking foward to others.
Blessings
