Today's Passage: John 20
This is one of those passage that I like to try and imagine myself experiencing. I've grown up hearing the Easter story told time and time again and it can be one of those passages that we become so familiar with that we miss the awe. I mean, really imagine yourself there:
You've given your life to follow this teacher, Jesus, the Son of God. He has just suffered an unfair trial, a brutal flogging, and a crucifixion. You are mourning his death and probably wishing you understood what was happening. You head to his tomb...which you find unexpectedly empty. Wondering what has happened, you run to find two of Jesus' disciples who return to the tomb. They check things out for themselves and they head back home. You're left alone, weeping. Two angels ask why you're crying. As you answer, you notice another man standing there. He also asks why you're crying and and what you're looking for. Assuming he's the gardener, you ask if he has moved Jesus' body. That's when the stranger says your name and you realize that He is the very person for whom you are mourning, your Savior!
As we go through this time of year, let us not weary of being AWED by our Savior. Hear the stories as if it's for the first time and rejoice that God sent his Son to earth!
