Today's Passage: 2 Peter 2
Most of us have played games that require us to determine if our opponent is telling the truth or not. To win, we have to be able to sniff out the lie by correctly evaluating both words and behavior. What we often forget is that the liar is studying us too... to determine what lies appeal to us.
2 Peter 2 is an exhaustive description of what false teachers are like, what they will try to do, and a reminder that God will not let their deeds go unpunished. The picture of false teachers painted in this passage is so vivid it seems impossible they would fool anyone. However, one of the most effective methods of lying is to mix it with enough truth to sound reasonable.
2 Peter 2:9 says the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations. When we have troubles, it is our human nature to want the cure but not the medicine. When the gratification of our flesh rules the day, we create the opportunity to be deceived.
Measure everything by God's Word and reject any teaching that denies the lordship of Jesus. Be willing to give everything to God and let Him decide what you can endure. He is faithful to give you what you need to overcome.
