Today's Passage:  John 5

Have you ever known a workaholic?  Someone who is addicted to work and has a misplaced understanding of what proper rest and relaxation is.  Today's culture is full of people who work 50, 60, even 70 hours in a given week.  These people need to learn to rest and properly take care of themselves.  While these types of people may seem to always be working, they do not even compare to how often God works in this world.

During Jesus' ministry he was constantly defending his relationship to the Father with devout religious people.  They were monitoring his every step so at the right time they could have him killed by the government officials.  In John 5 Jesus deals with a man who was waiting to be healed for years.  As Jesus heals the man and removes the sin, the religious folk pounce on Jesus to debate the theology behind the Sabbath.

In typical Jesus fashion, he responds to the religious experts by raising the bar and stating his divinity.  He absolutely blew the minds of the people of that day by his statement.  In summary, Jesus said God is working all the time (24-7) and he is equal with God.  This irritated the religious people and they waited for another time to convict him for his supposed crimes.  The same is true today concerning the work of God, and He is always at work even if it does not make sense to us.  Today take time and be aware of how God is moving in the people around you.
