Today's Passage: 1 Peter 4
1 Peter 4:8 says, "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." What a great verse to concentrate on as we enter the holiday season! Many of us will be leaving to go visit (or hosting) extended family in the next few days. Trying to fit that many people into one house, one schedule and one plan can often lead to one big headache. It is easy in the busyness of the season to get tired, cranky and to lose patience with those around us. Sometimes, these peaceful holiday meals can turn into chaos!
But love..especially deep love...covers a multitude of sins. When we love deeply, we breathe before we speak in anger. When we love deeply, we have patience before we act. When we love deeply, we are able to love in the manner that Jesus loves us...offering grace, peace and hope even when it isn't deserved. The deep, deep love of Jesus is large enough to cover the times when my sin gets in the way. How many times have my actions turned what God had planned for peace into chaos! Yet, even in this, His love covers me.
When you feel the blood pressure rising this weekend, remember to love deeply...love as Jesus loves you!
