Today's Passage: Ezekiel 6-7
If you thought some of the passages in Jeremiah were scary and depressing, then welcome to Ezekiel 6 and 7! This, to me, is some of the strongest language God has used yet in talking with the Israelites. Go back and read 7:5-9 again...wow! Distaster, unheard of disaster is coming upon them, and there will be no place to hide from it. It will be absolutely horrible...and then, God says, they will know that He truly is God.
We read a passage like this through the eyes of the redeemed. We know that those who stand against God are subject to great wrath..but we also know that those who stand with God are forgiven and spared. If you have accepted Christ as your savior, there is no need to fear the wrath of God...Christ's blood has redeemed and rescued us. But for many, the kinds of things that are described here will happen to them.
In light of this, go back and read the passage as if you didn't know God has spared you. Read it from the perspective of those who will face judgement. Would you not cry out for someone to show you they way out? Would you not be desperate for a chance to be spared?
The hope we get to share in Christ is hope for the hopeless. Let's look at people with new eyes...eyes searching for those who need to be rescued!
