Today's Passage: 1 Chronicles 23-24
"You can't always get what you want." This phrase is used by parents as they raise children to help them understand their desires do not equal the best decision. We have all come to a point in our lives where we understand we can't get everything we want. So then the question comes, "How will you react when you can't get what you want?" King David did not get what he wanted. He passionately wanted to rebuild the temple, but God would not allow it. How did David respond? He prepared and trained the following generation to build and maintain the temple.
Not a single one of us will build a temple or train others to do so. However, we will encounter obstacles in our lives where we badly wish the circumstances could change. We can't control the circumstances. We can only control how we react. So what circumstances are you facing right now? Do wish things would just totally and completely change? Instead of becoming bitter, cynical, or just plain grumpy, be positive, productive, and focus on the good. While this is all common sense, we often act off emotions rather than our common sense. As David trained Solomon, priest, and Levites, he knew he would not get to see his dreams come true. However, he stayed positive and focused on God. I know we all want to do the same. So today as you encounter circumstance less desirable, try to be positive and focus on God.
