Today's Passage: Romans 3
When do you feel better about yourself: right after you realize you've done something wrong, or when you have done something right? That might seem like a rhetorical question, but today's passage would indicate that we should perhaps feel the same way about ourselves either way.
Paul is not recommending that we feel bad about ourselves, but rather reminding us that none of us, whether Jew or Gentile, have arrived into the world and succeeded in avoiding sin. All of us have fallen short... and continue to fall short.
It is the law that serves to show us how and where we fall short. It is the righteousness of Christ that saves us and justifies us to the Father. I am glad that our most Holy Lord does not feel differently about me when I fall short than He does when I glorify Him in my words and actions. May the Lord demonstrate His grace to you this day, and may we who serve Him remain humble in knowing we cannot work for that grace.
