Today's Passage: Psalm 40-42
Have you ever been at the grocery store while you are in a hurry? Usually that's the time when there is 5-7 people in each line and every basket is completely full. So what's your response? Do you casually wait in line with a smile on your face? Or do you frantically pat your on the ground, as you diligently study each item in the person's cart in front of you to see how long it will take them? If I'm honest, then I would have to say when I'm in a hurry to do something, I want everyone else to hurry up with me. Unfortunately, everything about our culture from how we watch our television shows (DVR) to how we cook food (drive-thru) to how we research (google) is absolutely instantaneous.
What does Psalm 40:1 say? "I waited patiently on the Lord." Usually we take the same mentality with God as we do with watch our television shows. . .we want results instantaneously and there better not be any commercials! So how do we overcome this problem with patience?
It must begin by realizing God is the creator and sustainer of the world. He never promised to give us "instant downloads" of answers to our prayers and questions. Why then do we become impatient with Him? Because we are used to getting our way so frequently. Go to God for your needs. Go to God in prayer. After you do that, wait patiently as our God speaks to you about your prayer. While the answer may be "yes," it may well be "no." Be prepared to wait as you continuously communicate with God today.
