Today's Passage: Esther 5-6

Self-centeredness is a funny thing is it not?  I imagine that each one of us has experienced some level of self-centeredness within the past week.  Whether it is the choice of what to eat for dinner, what to watch on television, or what your Saturday consists of, chances have it that you probably were only significantly concerned with yourself and your desires.  In Esther's story we meet Haman who is no doubt self-centered and a braggart.  He talks kindly in front of the king, but once he is around his circle of friends he boasts loudly about his significance with the king.  Enter Mordecai whom the king favors because of his selflessness.  Mordecai has yet to receive anything for his loyal service to the royal court and the king wants to correct that point.

Like an old English novel,  Mordecai is redeemed and made out to be a hero by the very person who wanted to kill him, Haman.  Haman was so distraught with grief that he left the celebration of Mordecai as quickly as possible.  As he returned home, he was reminded of his present downfall as soon destruction by his wife and friends.

The question is raised from this story, "Who prevails and is blessed by God?"  Simple, it is Mordecai.  Next question, "Why?"  This answer is somewhat subjective, but the general answer would be character.  Mordecai did the things that were asked of him and never made a big deal about it.  Can the same be said about you?
