Today's Passage: Obadiah 1
A grudge is a heavy and dangerous thing to hold. Never held one? Are you sure? They are easy to pick up. Someone does you a severe injustice, isn't sorry and goes on with his or her life, possibly even benefiting from your injury. When the injustice is done by someone we think should know better, we want equity all the more.
While a short book, Obadiah reviews the ill will Edom had for Judah. It was the old feud of Esau's descendents against those of Jacob. Edom went further than just ill thoughts. They joined with the Babylonians to desecrate the land of Israel.
Obadiah warns of the Edomites false security, and reminds those of Judah of the Lord's faithfulness to His people for restoration and blessing.
It is never a good idea to take sides against God's people. The Edomites were doomed for their unjust deeds. The theme of Obadiah would be summed up nicely by Paul in Galatians 6:7, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap."
Ask the Lord to show you if you are storing away any resentment that needs to be thrown out. It's time for a different fruit--one of blessing--to be borne.
