Today's Passage: Matthew 8

"You're not the boss of me!"  Have you heard that somewhere? Hopefully whoever says this does know who the boss really is.

Matthew tells of the miracles in Matthew 8 to show Jesus's authority over sickness, nature (the weather) and demonic forces.  He would not do this on his own whimsy or even merely out of compassion for those He touched.

The best illustration is perhaps verses 5 through 13 where the centurion asks Jesus to heal his servant, but does not want Jesus to come to His house because "he is not worthy" as a Gentile.

The centurian understood authority: who would answer to him, but more importantly who he answered to.  Who is the boss of you?  Are you so clear on your instructions that you can speak for Him?

Sometimes, even when we know He is the boss of us we are like the disciples who seemed (at the time ) to have missed the understanding that the God of the Universe was in the boat with them (verses 23-27).   If this is a rough patch of water, do not fear.  Remember Who it is that is in the boat with you.... and He is the boss of everything.
