Today's Passage: 2 Thessalonians 3
In the chapter for today is one often quoted verse: "...If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat." (2 Thessalonians 3:10). In his closing remarks of this letter Paul warned against idleness in that some of the brethren in Thessalonica, believing that the Lord was about to return and there was no reason to labor since it would "all be over soon".
Like so many verses we automatically think "don't apply to us", (after all, we are all hard-working devoted believers) it would be easy to skip over this and use it as a hammer of justification for how we view someone we think is lazy. However, would I be remiss in expanding laziness to mean misuse of time? Recently someone brought a bit of verse to my attention and it is a powerful reminder of how precious our time is:
"God has given me this day to do, as I will.
I can waste it or use it for good.
What I do today is very important
Because I am trading a day in my life for it.
When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever.
Leaving behind something I've traded for it.
I want it to be gain, not less...
Good, not evil...
Success, not failure...
In order that I should never forget
The price I paid for it."
Even more so, the price He paid that I might live. Make the most of today.
