Today's Passage:  1 Thessalonians 1

Sometimes we think the Lord just can't do something without us.  That is what comes to my mind when starting to read 1 Thessalonians.  Paul is full of relief and gratitude writing to the believers of Thessalonica after hearing the good report from Timothy that they were strong in their faith.

Paul and Silas had started the church there on Paul's second missionary journey and had attempted to return twice but, according to 2:18 "was blocked by Satan".  Paul remained concerned for the young church there as it had not had his attention since its inception.  When he could no longer stand not knowing, he sent Timothy to find out how they were doing.

The relief and joy Paul felt in finding out they were thriving is evident... in fact, the faith of the believers in Thessalonica was famous in the region.  I do wonder if this might have been Paul sighing in relief for another reason: that the work started through him would continue without him.

If you're in transition today, or think you might be being led to a new place or a new opportunity, remember that the Lord can and will finish what He starts both in you and through you and He will accomplish His will.
