Today's Passage: Luke 20

In this passage of Luke, the Jewish authorities do their best to try and discredit the authority of Jesus. They would not have had this problem if Jesus had not been popular with the people, but since He was, they had to try and trap Him in public. Can you just imagine them reasoning amongst themselves? "Look, of course He's prepared to answer you... He can see you coming a mile a way. Now if you approach Him as someone who believes He actually has the authority He seems to flaunting about, you will be able to catch Him in error and we will have a claim."

While the Scriptures do not say the spies sent to trap Him became believers, He certainly gave them pause, as it says, "...they marveled at His answer and kept silent." (Luke 20:26).

I wonder today, are there areas of my life where I am not recognizing the authority Jesus has and letting Him reign? Am I arguing for control based on weak technicalities based on my long-held creeds or traditions? Am I unprepared for Him to do something I've never seen?
