Today's Passage: Revelation 10
Many times in the New Testament you see the phrase "mystery of God". This is especially true in the epistles of Paul. In one particular passage Paul says, "Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from faith—" (Romans 16:25-26).
Mysteries, in the ancient world, were secrets preserved in heaven and revealed in apocalyptic or prophetic writing. In this passage the mystery of God has defeated evil and will reign forever and ever. To focus more on the mystery of God I think is an important thing to do here. As detailed as the bible is, we know very little about God in comparison to all that he is. The day should be longed for when we see clearly the mysteries of God.
It is a wonderful thing to see the mystery in God. I do think however that it will be an even greater thing to see past the mystery and understand him better. One particular passage comes to mind where God defends Moses in front of Miriam and Aaron. In Numbers 12:6-8 God says:
“Listen to my words: “When there is a prophet among you,
I, the LORD, reveal myself to them in visions,
I speak to them in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses;
he is faithful in all my house.With him I speak face to face,
clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD.
Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”
Even God seems to be suggesting here that to see things clearly and not in mystery is better. That is why we should be longing for the day when we will be with God in heaven and know him more. That was the desire of Paul in Philippians 3:7-11 and what was promised in 1 Corinthians 13:12 Where it says, "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known" (italics added).
