Today's Passage: Psalms 140-142
As we've read through almost all of Psalms at this point, I am reminded today of an overriding theme through the book. It is always easy to see that God is interested in the lives of his children and is very active in their lives. He did not leave David to fend for himself or figure out how to make it on his own. God was very active in his life and protected him time and time again. God forgave him of his sins. God drew near to him when called upon. God gave him much success. And although David is not the only author of the Psalms, it is fair to say God was active in all of their lives in that way.
However, another closely related theme is traced throughout the Psalms and that is the author is drawing close to the Lord. His eyes are focused on God and nothing else. The author even says that in 141:8. I call on God all the time, don't you? When I'm having a bad day, when I'm mad at someone, when I don't feel good, when I'm confused, when I'm happy. We are always calling on God for something. However, I am convicted that my gaze in not always singularly focused on him. My goal should be to focus on God and bring glory to his name, not on what he can do for me. But I know that in times of trouble, he is always there and will always come to me.
