Today's Passage:  Proverbs 25-26

Solomon just has a way with words!  Proverbs 25:27-28 are humorous yet helpful.  Simply taking something that people ate (and still eat for that matter) like honey and connecting that to searching for honor is brilliantly said.  I am a person who loves honey, so this catches my eye when reading.

What does it feel like when I eat too much honey?  Stomach ache, headache, too hyper because of the sugar, and just feeling sickly are all results of too much honey.  That feeling is what Solomon wants his readers to grasp as they even consider seeking their own honor.  Honor is a good thing, just like honey.  But you never seek out to promote or gain honor.  This ethical statement plays nicely into v28 which is about a person needing to acquire self-control.

All of these pithy statements in Proverbs are practical.  We must be keenly aware of the possible destruction in our lives if we do not live out lives with character.  Are you a man or woman of character?  God calls us to be consistent in are daily living as to represent Him properly to the world (Eph 4:1-2).  Pray today for God to reveal in holes in your character.  Our character (or lack thereof) will have a significant impact on those around us.  Let us all take caution as to how we are living today!
