Today's Passage: Romans 6
Would you ever consider yourself a slave? Many of us would turn away from that question in disgust. This is primarily due our understanding of history and the persecution of slavery in recent centuries. However, the apostle Paul would passionately argue that you in fact are a slave. This may not seem like good news, when in fact it is great news. We don't have the option to be slaves, we just have the option of what we are a slave to.
Paul wisely gives his readers the two options to which we will enslave ourselves. First, there is righteousness. Second is evil. The apostle leaves no ambiguity. He even shows us the results of each. For being a slave to righteousness results in life. Not surprisingly, slavery to evil leads to death.
To which of these are you being a slave? What is your evidence of your slavery? Often times we simply keep things in generalities and gray so that we can feel good about most decisions. Paul leaves no opportunity. If you are struggling through this passage, then I would encourage you to read this chapter again, pray deeply to God, and cling to righteousness (which is Christ Jesus himself).
