Today's Passage: Genesis 12

Obedience/Disobedience

If we believe God, we're gonna obey Him, but that doesn't mean that we won't still disobey Him from time to time.  Abraham starts out with a great act of obedience, and the chapter ends with a silly act of disobedience.  After trusting God by obeying the incredible command to leave everything and go to a land that God would show him,  Abraham fails to trust that God would protect him in Egypt.  So, he lies about his relationship with Sarai, calling her his sister instead of his wife.  Can you relate to this?  I hope so, because I really think this is a great picture of what we all do! In fact, it should be of no surprise to us that after great spiritual victory, there would come some spiritual defeat.  We need to remember that we have an enemy who does not want us to be in close relationship with God, and certainly not obey Him or be used by Him.  We find that in Ephesians 6, but we also find our greatest weapons in that same chapter.  It doesn't matter how old we are or where we live, we all have the same promises of God and the same enemy who wants to keep us from living in them. That should give you a boost today--you're not so different than the great patriarch, Abraham!
