Today's Passage: Romans 4

"Believe..."  It's Macy's catch phrase during the Christmas Season, or what they refer to now as the Holidays.  There is an urgency to this cry to believe in Santa Claus.

The Disney experience is full of, "believing," whether it be in fairy tale endings or in the human capability to save our planet, travel and settle in space.

"Believe in yourself," is the battle cry of Oprah and the New Age movement

As Christians we must ask ourselves, "What am I believing in?"  The Christian life is not about a one time belief in God and His Son for salvation.  It is about a lifetime of ups and downs, ins and outs, always believing that God is who He says He is.  So, what's the difference between this and the examples I mentioned at the beginning of this blog?  Obedience! "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." How do we know he believed God?  He obeyed God!  Genesis 12 tells the story when God said to him, "Leave your country and family and go to a land I will show you."  This step of faith is the outward manifestation of believing!

When we enter into relationship with God through salvation, we believe God and that His Son, Jesus, came to die on the cross, was raised from the grave, and we obey the direction to confess our sinfulness, repent from it, and confess Christ as Lord of our lives.

Hebrews 11:6, "Without faith it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to Him just believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him."
