Today's Passage: 2 Corinthians 4
I just recently heard a speaker give an incredible picture of verse 18, the end of the chapter. "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." She had just been to the Cayman Islands and described how beautiful the flowers, the beaches, the colors of the water were. One tour guide told them emphatically, "If that is all you see of the Cayman Islands than you are missing MOST of the beauty!" He, of course, was encouraging them to snorkel and/or scuba dive to see the all the coral and sea life that remain unseen from the surface the crystal clear blue water.
We're just like her in our Christian walk! We are so focused on the "seen" things, things on the surface. Whether good or bad, we are driven by our circumstances, instead of the unseen depths of the glory of God. The saddest part is that we are perfectly content to stay there, riding the waves of what we see, and we miss ALL of the unseen, the previews of God's ultimate glory that we will see in Heaven for all eternity!
