Today's passage: Amos 7-9
Don't you hate it when people butt into your life with all the answers and the scriptures to go with them? I mean really--- you've got serious stress and a mountain of problems, and they couldn't possibly understand your situation, right? or could they?
In our flesh, we often reject the word of God when it is brought to us by others. Amaziah had a similar reaction to Amos.
"Get out, you seer...don't prophesy any more..." (7:12) We might not use those words, but we do stop attending the Sunday School class or the church where our toes got stepped on. Or we might disassociate with the friend or family member who has overstepped their bounds. What a tragedy! God's word says that iron sharpens iron, and so one man sharpens another (Proverbs 27:17). The Bible also says that we should remember those who lead us spiritually. (Hebrews 13:7) Most importantly, God's word is God breathed and profitable for reproof, correcting, teaching...(2 Timothy 3:16). Perhaps it's been a long time since we have read God's word for ourselves and that's why God is bringing us these messengers.
