Today's Passage: Hebrews 11
This is one of the most famous chapters in the New Testament, as it contains the legacy of faith from much of man's story with God up to this point. The list here contains many of the "heroes" of the Bible...Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and more. The author of Hebrews doesn't even have time to talk about people like David and Samuel! It is certainly an inspiring chapter that allows us to reflect on our own faith in Christ.
But there is one name that really stands out to me...it's one that was also referenced last Sunday morning in James 2. It's found in verse 31, which says, "By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient." Why is Rahab, a prostitute and foreigner, listed among the giants of scripture? How is it that she qualifies in this hall of fame of faith, especially with her background?
The answer is simple...she had great faith! She had the faith in the God of the Israelites to protect His people. She put her safety on the line so that they would not be killed, risking her own family in the process. Faith has nothing to do with your background, your previous sin, your nationality, your race or anything else. No matter where you have been, you can be a person of great faith now...you are not trapped by your past.
The only thing you need to be in the hall of fame of faith is a hall of fame sized faith!
