Today's Passage:  2 Chronicles 17-18

Who are you listening to when you need advice?  Jehoshaphat almost listened to the wrong person..and it would have cost him his life.  Ahab, king of Israel, didn't like what the prophet of God would say to him, so he surrounded himself with "prophets" who would tell him what he wanted to hear.  They weren't really prophets...they weren't speaking truth.  They were simply yes men, and it didn't matter that there were a hundred of them if they were all giving bad advice.

That's why Jehoshaphat's question in verse 6 is so important:  "Is there not a prophet of the LORD here whom we can inquire of?"  He knew that the most important words would not come from yes men but from a man speaking God's truth to them.  Even when that truth was difficult to hear, he knew it was still the truth.  He was prepared for the battle to turn and was spared by God from the destruction that Ahab would experience.

Who are you listening to when you need advice?  Are you surrounding yourself with people that will tell you what you want to hear...or worse, words that they want to be true for them as well?  Or will you listen to the truth of God as your guide?  One will lead to destruction and the other will lead to blessing...even when it is difficult to hear.
