Today's Passage:  Psalms 96-97

"Ascribe" is not a word we use very often anymore.  While it literally means "to refer", it carries the weight of something else.  It's heart is to give credit to something by listing all the reasons it deserves that credit.  So when verse 8 tells us to ascribe to God "the glory due His name", then we are give credit to God for all the things that should bring Him glory.

We could start now and go for eternity and never ascribe to God all the things that bring the glory that is due to Him.  We'll get the opportunity one day when we stand before Him in heaven to worship Him in just this manner...to have all the time in the world to praise Him for who He is.  But for today, take just a few minutes and ascribe to God just part of the glory due Him.  Maybe you need to write them down just so you can see how quickly and easily they will come to you...whatever you need to do, take just a few minutes out of a busy day and taste what heaven may be like.  When you are done, come back here.

---

Ok, now look at or remember your list.  How does it make you feel to bring Him glory?  When we begin to ascribe Him the glory He deserves, it's amazing how good it makes US feel.  We remember how much He loves us and just how much He's done to restore our relationship.  He's worth our praise...and so much more.

Maybe "ascribe" should come back to our vocabulary!
