Today's Passage:  Ephesians 5

Ephesians 5 has one of my favorite verses because it captures a place I've been many times in my walk with Christ.  Verse 14 says, "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

Have you ever been at that place in your walk with Christ where you felt like you were sleepwalking through it?  Maybe you have a time in the Word but the letters all blend together on the page.  Maybe you are praying but it feels like the words are hitting the ceiling...or you are singing during worship and they are just words...or you easily drift off during the sermon (heaven forbid!).  I know that, in my life, there have been times when I just feel spiritually sleepy.

Ephesians 5 gives us a great clue as to how that sleepiness occurs. There is usually sin and darkness involved, which makes sense, because darkness makes us sleepy!  But Paul says we should turn on the lights, wake up and let Christ shine on us.  To do that, we'll have to put off the sin and darkness and turn on the bright lights of truth.

If you feel sleepy, is it because there is darkness?  Turn on the lights!  Ask Christ to free you of that sin...repent and turn away...and let the light of Christ wake you into a walk that brings honor to Him!
