Today's Passage: Job 25-26
We all know the little rhyme, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." That seemed like a good idea on the playground, but we know better now....sometimes words hurt worse than broken bones because they cut to the core and take a very long time to heal.
That's why Job's "friends" words here must hurt so much. With a friend like Bildad, who needs enemies? Job is heartbroken, searching for answers, and all Bildad can say to him is, "You must have done something to earn this!" Job is trying to stand firm, but Bildad continues to tell him that if he'll just own up to his sin then everything will be better.
Job's response is pure sarcasm...."What a friend you are! You know just what to say to make a guy feel better!" Job needed compassion but got callousness. He needed a friend and got a lecture.
Words do hurt...how are you using yours this week?
