Today's Passage:  Psalm 18

It's interesting that we've had these two passages (Acts 20 and Psalm 18) back to back.  In Acts 20, Paul was falsely accused and his life was threatened.  In Psalm 18, we have David's reaction to God after years of false accusations and having his life threatened.  Remember, David had been on the run from Saul for a long time...Saul knew David was a threat to his throne, so he lied about him and tried to have him killed.  David, however, remained faithful to God (and even to Saul several times), and in the end, he was vindicated and the throne became his.

So, how does David react?  Is he bitter about his circumstances?  Is he frustrated at all that has happened?  Psalm 18 tells us the opposite...that he simply wants to praise God for His protection and faithfulness!   The simple translation is this:  God, you're my rock.  You protect me even when it seems I may be trapped by my circumstances.  I cry out to you for justice and mercy, and you deliver.  Your power and might has sustained me and turned back the evil in this world.  I will trust you forever because you are forever faithful.

The next time trouble comes, will we react like the world or react like David...trusting and praising God for His amazing provision in our lives?  Our God is our rock...He will not be moved!
