Today's Passage:  Psalm 83

If the people of Israel knew anything, they knew about facing enemies.  It seems the entire story of the Old Testament is their struggle against people who want to conquer and destroy them.  From the time of Abraham to Egypt to the promised land to the exile, they were constantly being threatened by enemies who wanted to defeat not only them, but God as well.

What did they do when adversity came?  They cried out to God!  Tomorrow we'll be studying Acts 4 in the service that deals with this very same topic of overcoming adversity.  A verse God led me to this week is Luke 21:14-15:  "But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves.  For I will give you words of wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict."  The people of Israel often tried to deal with these enemies on their own, but their only success was when they were still and let God fight for them.

This Psalm is one of those cries...the next time the enemy of this world attacks you, will you call out as well and let God fight for you?
