Today's Passage: Ezekial 22-23
That time of year is nearly upon us when employee performance is evaluated and managers tell their workers how well or poorly they have done. If management is effective, the end of year review is no surprise, because the expectations have been clear from the beginning.
Ezekial's prophetic word in chapters 22-23 isn't just a gentle reminder to get back on track or "forfeit the bonus". God's people had become so hard of hearing and buried in sin that God called Jerusalem "the bloody city" and compares it and Samaria to harlot sisters, one trying to outdo the other in depravity and corruptness (Ezekial 23:11). All classes of society are identified as transgressors (Ezekial 22:25-31): prophets, priests, and the people of the land. In these two chapters, God is simply crying, "Enough!"
In Ezekial 22:30 God declares that all of the judgement on Judah could have been prevented if only one intercessor (a leader of righteousness) had stood before him on behalf of the others. This particular use of the word "gap" (Hebrew: perets) means a breach that needs repair. This metaphor of the intecessor implies that not only would this intercessor repair the breach, but stand the gap to protect from enemies until the repair is complete.
Do not today underestimate your power as a believer to stand in the gap (pray and believe) for what may seem a hopeless situation at first glance. God has placed you in a unique positon at the wall where you can best serve.... there is a gap just for you to fill.
