Today's Passage: Jeremiah 20-21
After reading these chapters you might think that Jeremiah was bipolar. At the beginning and end of this passage Jeremiah is speaking with strength and certainty about God's judgment. But verses 7-18 of chapter 20 paint a much different picture of Jeremiah. Some Old Testament scholars believe that these verses are Jeremiahs recount of his conversation with God during his night in the stocks described in verse 2.
In any case these verses tell a tremendously encouraging testimony in the fact that even though Jeremiah was stricken with confusion about his possession God still took care of him and used him. We all face times of feeling insufficient or unworthy for God's plan. Even Old Testament prophets... The thing we must always remember is If we love God and desire for His plan to prevail then He will always be near us. And if God is near us then even in the toughest circumstances He will be there to lift us up and work through our lives.
Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
