Today's Passage: Acts 9
Who would have thought? If you are a believer, think of the person you know LEAST LIKELY to accept Jesus Christ as savior and become one of His most faithful disciples. When you think of them, does it seem impossible?
In today's passage, Saul of Tarsus has his conversion experience on the road to Damascus. Saul was so famous for his treachery to Christians that anyone who was a believer (and many who were not) knew who he was. Ananias, whom the Lord told to go and pray for Saul to receive his sight, practically said to the Lord (in so many words), "Are you crazy? This guy eats guys like me for lunch!"
Saul thought he was doing a good thing for God. In verse 5, the Lord says to him, "It is hard for you to kick against the goads," which some interpret to mean that Saul's conscience was starting to bother him about what he was doing.
While there may have been few who would have thought to pray for Saul to be converted (not thinking it possible and more likely praying for him to be taken out of the picture), there were no doubt some that were willing to believe He could do anything: even save Saul.
People who seem the most distant from His salvation may, in fact, be days or even hours from that tipping point where they give it all to Him. If you are praying for such a person, don't give up. You could be praying for another Saul.
