Today's Passage: Proverbs 22-23

Both of these chapters have some great wisdom in them but the verse that I would like to focus on is 22:6.

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

This verse can cause some controversy among parents that feel that they have done everything in their power to raiser their children in the best way possible, but in return their children have rebelled and are doing the exact opposite.  Let me first say that this proverb is not a guaranty that if you raise your children according to scripture that they will adhere to it for the rest of their life.  What I do believe is that if you both teach and model obedience to Christ your children will be much more likely continue in their own individual faith when they are out on their own.  Deuteronomy 6 outlines our responsibilities as parents to impress the truths of scripture on both ourselves and our children.

There is no magic formula for parents to follow that will guaranty that their children will come to a full understanding and relationship with Christ.  What is certain, is that God draws us closer to Him through spending time in His word.

So share the word of God with your children and teach them to understand and obey it. By doing this and modeling it yourself you will truly be training your children in the way that they should go.
