Today's Passage: Job 27
The first 6 verses of chapter 27 are presented to us in the form of an oath. Job declares in these verses that he clings to his righteousness and will not waiver from it. He states that he will not agree with his friends opinions which he sees as foolishness and in direct opposition to who God is. However in Job's statement he makes a prideful error. Job declares that he will maintain his righteousness and never let it go. Which as we all know, righteousness is not obtainable by man apart from God.
Job's mistake was a simple one, and one that we can find ourselves in if we are not careful. Job allowed his confidence in God to shift to confidence in his faith in God. The difference was a shift from being focused on how good God is to being focused on how good he was in following God.
A great passage to help you digest and understand better how we are to represent God is 2 Corinthians 12:1-10. Paul quotes God in this passage as saying "my (God's) power is made perfect in your (our) weakness."
