Today's Passage:  2 Timothy 2

There are so many great words of wisdom in this chapter, but I want to focus today on a trustworthy saying.  It's not often that Paul says, "Hey...look at this!  You can put your full faith in what I'm about to say next."  We would assume that all of scripture is trustworthy, right?  But Paul takes the time to remind us that these are words we can take to the bank.

"If we die with Him, then we will also live with Him." - We can take this as certain truth...when we give our lives to Christ and die to our sin, we gain eternal life with the Risen Savior!  We can rest assured that our decision to trust Him leads to the certain promise of heaven.

"If we endure, we will also reign with Him."  - As we continue to study in James on Sunday mornings, we're learning about striving for the crown of life through perseverance.  This world is not our home, and it continues to tell us that it's way of thinking is correct when we know without a doubt that God's way is best!  If we persevere through these trials and temptations, we will be able to give that crown back to Him one day.

"If we disown Him, then He will disown us."  - Our security is not in our actions...it is in being a child of God!  If we choose to reject Jesus, then we, too, will be rejected and destined for eternity separated from God.  It is our choice that leads to this!

"If we are faithless, He remains faithful."  - I will stumble and fall.  I will sometimes choose sin, even when I know it's not the right choice.  But His grace is sufficient for me, and He is always faithful to the promise of forgiveness.  I may waiver in my strength, but His strength remains perfect."

Words we can take to the bank!  Take some time today to thank God for the certain promises of scripture.
