Today's Passage:  Jeremiah 6-8

Let's play out a hypothetical situation today:  You are sitting in your house debating a very serious choice.  You have two options, but you are not sure what will happen in either when you choose.  Suddenly there is a knock on the door...a man is on your doorstep with a word from the Lord!  He says, "God sent me here to tell you what will happen in your decision.  If you choose "A", then it will lead to your destruction.  If you choose "B", you will be blessed.  Make your choice accordingly."

How many of us would say, "Well, blessing sounds good, but I choose destruction?  Give me "A"!"  If we were told ahead of time that our choice was bad, wouldn't we change our choice?

In this passage, Jeremiah tells the people, "You have a choice to make!  Follow God and be blessed or follow your own way and be destroyed."  Unfortunately, Jeremiah was told by God what the people would choose in 7:27...they choose destruction over blessing.

We read a story like this and see that the choice is simple, yet scripture tells us over and over the dangers of sin and we still choose it.  We choose the more difficult road...the road away from blessing...the road to destruction over the road to blessing.  We know the consequence before we choose, and yet the attractiveness of sin draws us in again and again.

The next time we're faced with the choice to sin, can we see the choice for what it really is?
