Today's Passage: Hebrews 1
The author of Hebrews begins without a greeting or introduction...he just jumps right into the doctrinal issues he wants to address. There was obviously confusion on who Jesus really was while on earth and is now in heaven, because the first seven chapters of the book will deal with the role of Jesus in the world.
Therefore, there are great truths about the person of Jesus in chapter 1. I encourage you to read the chapter slowly and stop where the Spirit leads you to think, pray and worship Jesus for who He is. For me, it was verse 3, which tells us that Jesus is "the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word." Jesus radiates the glory of God...what an amazing idea! We know from scripture that God's glory could not be seen by humans in the Old Testament, as it was just too overwhelming for Moses to handle. But through Jesus we are able to see that glory...and not just the glory, but the exact representation of who God is! Jesus is God "translating" himself so that we can see and have relationship with Him, even though He remains the God who sustains all things through the power of His word.
As we continue in the next few days to read about who Jesus is, all of these chapters come back to this idea: Jesus came so that we could see God and return to relationship. I'm so grateful that the radiance of God now lives in me!
