Today's Passage:  I Corinthians 14

This is certainly an interesting (and sometimes difficult) chapter...one that has been the subject of great theological debate.  Most churches do not practice speaking in tongues, while some celebrate it as a very important reason why they are a church.  Instead of engaging in the dialogue on tongues, I'd like to pull several truths from this passage that remain true no matter where you stand on the gift of tongues.

-  First, we should eagerly desire to use our spiritual gifts.  God has equipped all of us with spiritual gifts, and we should want to use them for His glory and His kingdom.  If you don't know what your spiritual gifts are, our staff would be glad to help you discover them...or you can take our spiritual gifts class the next time it comes around!

-  Second, our desire should be that the church is edified and the lost see Jesus.  So many times we let the focus get on us rather than God...remember, our goal is to glorify Him!  He has not gifted us so we can brag or draw attention to ourselves, but so that we can help people be more like Him every day.

- Finally, we should worship with reckless abandon and reverent order at the same time.  We should give all of ourselves to the Lord, but not in a way that, again, would draw the attention away from Him.

No matter what style of worship we practice, it must be about bringing glory to Jesus.  If your worship is about you (or you aren't worshiping at all!), focus this week on giving God the glory He so richly deserves.
