Today's Passage: Proverbs 18-19
Proverbs 18:10 says, "The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." The people of the time of Proverbs knew a thing or two about strong towers...at times, they would be the difference between life and death. When an enemy attacked, if you got caught outside the fortified city, you were done for...and even greater the protection if you were so high that the enemy couldn't reach you if they tried!
It certainly sounds like something we'd want today...a place where the enemy of this world can't reach us. A place where we can run and be safe. As the enemy tries to tear down our walk with Jesus or our call to Kingdom work on this earth, we need to have a place of refuge.
Where, according to scripture, is this place? It is in the name of the Lord. When we live in the Lord's name and in His righteousness, we are in a strong tower and can't be touched. The key here is that it is in His name we are safe...meaning we've got to be living a life that is covered by His name. If we're living a life of sin and not righteousness, we're not running to His name...we're taking our chances in our own name. There is absolutely no safety in my name!
When we choose righteousness, we choose to be living in the name of the Lord...that's a great place to be!
