Today's Passage:  Galatians 2

This passage should end any thoughts that the early church was "perfect"...meaning that they always got along and agreed on every single thing that happened.  According to Paul's side of the story, Peter had been eating and interacting with Gentile believers, but after a few people came and talked to him, he wouldn't eat with them anymore.  As we learned two weeks ago on Sunday morning in Acts 10, the whole idea of reaching out to the Gentiles was very new to Peter, and I'm sure he still had moments like this one where he wasn't sure how he was supposed to act.

I think the lesson we can learn from this passage is the right way to handle issues where we may be unsure or disagree with each other.  Paul directly speaks to Peter and presents his problem...and the scriptural evidence to back up his position.  Many times we let our feelings or emotions govern our conversations, but Paul spoke the Word of God.  It wasn't Paul's opinion, but the truth of the gospel, that mattered.

The next time you disagree with a believer, will you speak with your emotions or with the Word of God?  Are you more concerned about your feelings rather than the truth?  If we could focus on God's Word and His direction for us, how much easier would it be to accomplish His will in the world?
